I've seen tow hooks that are much larger and have more pieces. Can you make these? They are supposed to be the same as the factory original 6 pc. kit that Chrysler doesn't sell anymore. I know you already have brackets, but I've heard you can bend ones like them if you pull slightly from the side. |
The K06-XMD/P tow hooks on our website will not work for the factory bumper or if you would buy a bumper other than RockRatz. They only work with one of the RockRatz bumpers or if you completely remove the bumper and just put the tow hook on.
RockRatz' towhooks were made to work with the RockRatz bumper, because the bumper is a one piece welded design. After you attach the bumper to the OEM mounts, you would have to bend the tow hook bracket, the bumper, and both sides of the unibody frame to have a problem. With bumper attached, you have 1/2" steel per side; both the bracket and the bumper are made from 1/4" steel to spread the load to the other side. If you use ours without our bumper, the OEM unibody will collapse because it is just thin sheet metal when pulling from the side. The OEM brackets spread the load out to the side and longitudinally through the frame.
I called the local Jeep dealer, he told me that the part number is 55234897AB for one side and 52000747 for the other side. He said price was $80.94, I don't know if that was each side or a pair. You will have ask and recheck to make sure they are the right brackets for your year of XJ. I have bought them in the past and they were expensive. More info: the ones I bought from the dealer had the bumper bracket welded to the tow hook bracket, which means if you bought anyone's aftermarket bumper the tow hook bracket could not be used. Just a heads up so you don't have to waste any money. The OEM tow hook kit has an extension that runs about 8-10 inches back towards the driver and bolts completely though the box frame section, and it has a "L" bracket on the inside that bolts though the 2 holes towards the front and another two facing forward, small 1/4-5/16". They are the ideal setup for keeping the factory bumper, but I have had people tell me they are not available from dealers anymore.

| What about your K09-XMD/P bracket, is it strong enough? |
These are tow hook brackets and can be used for recovery, but they are bolted to a unibody thin sheet metal with the hardware that you already have, so judgment must be made when recovering as they have the possibility of ripping out the unibody if pulled from the side or excessive load put on them. That's not to scare you, just to let you know what could happen and that if you plan on getting stuck every single time you go out you might want to invest in a bumper with shackle mounts that will transmit the pull force to both sides of the unibody frame. These tow hook brackets will work for 98% of times you get stuck, remember to always pull inline with the tow hook (straight forward). |
